Fall Transforum
Former diplomat Mona Sutphen to speak on leadership and the economic outlook at Mount Mary's Fall Transforum, October 11.
MILWAUKEE (October 7, 2013) - Mona Sutphen, a trailblazing Milwaukee native, returns to the city to encourage area women to utilize their leadership skills to foster change as part of Mount Mary University's Fall Transforum on Friday, Oct. 11, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Discovery World, 500 N. Harbor Dr. The event is hosted by the university's Women's Leadership Institute, which aims to develop the full potential of women as creative, transformative leaders within the global community. Sutphen's presentation will chronicle her successful career path which began as a graduate of Milwaukee public schools. She will also provide an economic outlook that she believes shows promising signs of improvement.
Sutphen has distinguished herself in government and business. Her lengthy credentials include serving two U.S. Presidents in diplomatic and advisory positions. From 2009-2011, she was Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy for President Obama and was the first African American in that position. During the Clinton administration, she was on the staff of the National Security Council and earlier in her career was a United States Foreign Service Officer. Sutphen is currently Managing Director at UBS AG, covering geopolitical and macro-policy trends, and a member of the President's Intelligence Advisory Board. She's also co-authored a book titled The Next American Century: How the U.S. Can Thrive as Other Powers Rise.
Sutphen attended John Marshall High School in Milwaukee, graduated from Mount Holyoke College and the London School of Economics and is fluent in five languages, including Mandarin.
