Creative Connections Camp Hosts Free Art and Music Exhibit
Musical Performances and Mixed Media Pieces on Display
MILWAUKEE (July 6, 2015) - On Saturday, July 11, 10 a.m. to Noon in the Marian Gallery, Mount Mary University is hosting a free exhibit of artwork created during its Creative Connections summer camp. The "Reflections Gallery Exhibit" will feature musical performances by students and more than 100 mixed media pieces. Approximately 90 kindergartens to eighth graders participated in the annual art and music camp, taking classes that encouraged them to engage their hands, minds and ideas in creative, reflective ways.
In addition to the art exhibit and musical entertainment, the event includes face painting, make-it-take-it stations and other art activities. A silent auction of Creative Connections' smocks, t-shirts, professional artwork and some donated items will be available for bid with all proceeds going to fund camp scholarships. This year, $1,000 in aid was provided to campers who needed financial support to attend Creative Connections.
During a week in June and a week in July, Creative Connections offered students the opportunity to make a secret treasure box, explore stop-motion animation and shoot their own film, fashion puppets from broomsticks and mops, learn popular songs from Broadway musicals, try out rhythmic instruments, design costumes and more. The camp is led by Deb Heermans, assistant professor of Art and Art Education at Mount Mary University.
Mount Mary University is located at 2900 N. Menomonee River Parkway, Milwaukee. The Marian Gallery is on the first floor of Caroline Hall.
