English Program Sponsors Second Annual Publishing Institute
Area authors share publishing expertise, writers connect with agents
MILWAUKEE (July 20, 2015) - Mount Mary University will present its second annual Publishing Institute on Saturday, September 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for area writers and those seeking to publish their work. The event will take place in Stiemke Hall on campus and registration is now open.
Six visiting authors will discuss first book deals, and breakout sessions on query letters, custom and e-publishing, writing communities, and post-publication marketing will also be offered. The event will conclude with author readings, book signings, and one-on-one critique.
Dean Bakopoulos, award-winning author of Please Don't Come Back from the Moon, is the founding director of the Wisconsin Book Festival and is a creative writing professor at Iowa State University, will keynote the event.
The cost to attend the event is $75 ($65 for students with a valid ID). Limited one-on-one sessions to pitch a writing project with a publishing agent are available for an additional $25 on a first come, first served basis. Space is limited and early registration is encouraged and registration is required.
In addition to Saturday's presentations, author and Madison native, Bridget Birdsall will present "How Self-Publishing Led to Finding an Agent and Healed My Soul" on Friday, September 25 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This presentation is free and open to the public.
