Recognizing Founders Day and Student Inductees in Honorary Societies

We celebrate Founders Day and recognize our honorary societies - Delta Epsilon Sigma and Kappa Gamma Pi.

Mount Mary University paid tribute to its 103-year heritage at its University-wide Founders Day celebration.

"This is a day that represents who we are and what we value," said University President Eileen Schwalbach. "We remember the strong women who trusted in God and dared to found a college over 100 years ago.

"For all of us this is a day to recommit ourselves to the legacy of the School Sisters of Notre Dame."

This year, 17 juniors and seniors were inducted into two honorary sororities, Delta Epsilon Sigma and Kappa Gamma Pi.

The leadership council of the School Sisters of Notre Dame's Central Pacific Province, headquartered in St. Louis, attended the event. Provincial Leader, Mary Anne Owens, SSND, gave out awards to students and employees who particularly exemplify the spirit of the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

• The Mother Theresa Award was given to senior Michelle Hawkins, an international studies student.
• The Mother Caroline Award was given to junior Elizabeth Perez who has volunteered extensively within the Hispanic community

The following SSND Heritage Awards were given:

• The Staff Award was given to Rose Lanier of the housekeeping staff.
• The Administration Award was given to Karen Friedlen, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs.
• The Faculty Award was given to Art Therapy faculty Lynn Kapitan
