Summer Leadership Academy prepares young women for college
The key to a successful future is an early start. With the Summer Leadership Academy this year, high school students from around the United States have the opportunity to come to Mount Mary’s campus to prepare for college, explore different career options and embrace the challenge of leadership.
The three-day program will bring together 65 high school girls and runs from June 23- 26, 2019. Participants will experience panels, lectures and interactive workshops on a variety of different leadership and professional growth topics, including confidence, finding your authentic self, racism and leadership, and more. Registration is now open.
"Mount Mary excels in developing confident women. The sooner we are able to reach them, the more successful we believe they will be in life," said Anne Kahl, director of the Women's Leadership Institute. "We are so excited to offer this opportunity for high school students to learn and walk away more confident and more educated for their future careers."
New this year, the Summer Leadership Academy is looking forward to welcoming back a number of last year’s participants as peer mentors. These young women will put their leadership skills and experiences as previous Summer Leadership Academy participants into practice by assisting current academy participants. They will develop and maintain relationships to provide support for participants, focusing on transition, acclimation and a sense of belonging. Applications to become a peer mentor are now available.
“It teaches you about different career opportunities. Even if you think you have your mindset, there are a (number) of opportunities to seize and take on,” says Megan Herlache, a participant from last year’s Summer Leadership Academy.
This event is sponsored in part by Johnson Controls, Brewers Community Foundation, Green Bay Packers Foundation, GMAR Realtors’ Youth Foundation, Inspirio Youth Ministries, Virginia Cornyn ’62 and Nancy Cheski ’65.
