Starving Artists’ Show cancelled for 2020
Cancellation due to on-campus construction, social distance concerns
After 50 years of consecutive shows, the Starving Artists’ Show set for September 13 has been canceled.
“After a 50-year run with no cancellations, this was a very difficult decision to make,” said Vice President for Alumnae and Donor Relations Pam Owens. “Due to the challenges we faced from Mount Mary University’s new construction project and the uncertainty of the times, we felt this would be best for the safety of all.”
The groundbreaking for Mount Mary’s intergenerational housing community is set for mid-summer, and the construction adjacent to the art show grounds would have significantly limited parking and accessibility.
"The cancellation of the show was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made,” said Mary Bock, chair of the show. “The Mount Mary Starving Artists' Show has become the favorite show for artists and patrons who come every year to shop and in turn support the Mount Mary University Alumnae Association.”
The 2021 show will be held Sunday, September 12, 2021.
The event has been an enduring favorite for artists and their devoted fans. “We have always looked forward to the show and will miss not having it on the calendar, said Cedarburg painter Mary Ellen Mueller. “It has been such a wonderful time for us to run into so many people from the past, and of course such a great venue to sell my newest work. I hope we all stay healthy and can enjoy the event with no reservations in 2021!”
