Nov. 4 keynote speaker breaks barriers in baseball and beyond

linda_news.jpgAs the first female and Hispanic owner of a major league baseball team, Linda Alvarado takes a strong stance on defying convention.

Her speech on Thursday, Nov. 4, "Breaking Barriers," is part of Voices of Leadership, an event bringing together and engaging Milwaukee’s professional community around topics and ideas that underscore the mission of Mount Mary University. It will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. in the Alumnae Dining Room on campus. Registration is now open.

In addition to her ownership of the Colorado Rockies, Alvarado is founder, president and CEO of one of the fastest growing commercial general contracting companies in the nation.

“Alvarado broke societal standards and has set the stage for many women to follow,” said Executive Director of Mount Mary’s Women’s Leadership Institute Anne Kahl.

Alvarado’s numerous awards include:

  • Named in Hispanic Business Magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential Hispanics in America
  • Inducted in the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 2003 and recipient of the Horatio Alger Award
  • Voted by viewers as the “Most Inspiring American Latino” for the American Latino Television Award in 2009
  • Honored along with US Attorney General, Janet Reno, and Maya Angelou as a recipient of the prestigious Sara Lee Corporation Frontrunner Award for exemplary achievement and leadership.
