Starving Artists’ Show Returns to Mount Mary Sept. 12
Mount Mary University’s Starving Artists’ Show returns to campus from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12.This year marks the 51st celebration of talented and artisans. Due to the construction of Trinity Woods, the show will take place on the southeast corner of the Mount Mary campus near Hadley and 92nd streets.
The show features over 190 local and national artists who work in pottery, fiber, photography, painting, sculpture, glass and more. All artwork is original and priced at $100 or less. The Mount Mary University Alumnae Association sponsors the show, and a jury of experienced Mount Mary alumnae select the artists for the show.
After a year’s hiatus in 2020 due to COVID-19, organizers are pleased to host the 51st show, said Starving Artists’ Show Chair Mary Schwister Bock ‘64.
“The Starving Artists’ Show is unique in its goal to provide affordable original art by excellent artists,” said Bock. “We are celebrating amazing friendships developed over many years and the joy we have in raising funds for women’s education.”
Admission sales from the event support Mount Mary scholarships and educational experiences for students.
Cold beverages will be available for purchase on the show grounds.
There will be limited free parking on the Mount Mary grounds. Street parking is also available.
For the first time, the Mount Mary campus will be open for refreshments, academic displays and tours of the new Health Sciences Lab inside Caroline Hall.
Additionally, the School Sisters of Notre Dame will be also selling original artwork in Bergstrom Hall.
The event will follow Mount Mary's current COVID policies. Mount Mary University does not currently have a mask mandate for outdoor areas; there is a mask mandate for all indoor spaces, and it is recommended to follow social distancing and handwashing.
