Fashion Show will highlight sports, sustainability, science
Students draw inspiration from eclectic sources for May 10 show
Students are hard at work preparing for the annual CREO Student Designer Fashion Showcase at Mount Mary University. This collaboration showcases the creative efforts of design and merchandise management majors. Students from the Fashion Show Coordination class will ideate and oversee the transformation of our elegant Alumnae Dining Room into a bright and spacious venue for the 2024 show.
This year's theme is "Aura," which captures an eclectic array of influences. The show will take place at 1, 5 and 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10, in the Alumnae Dining Room of Bergstrom Hall on the Mount Mary campus.
"Ten merchandise management majors have worked all semester to plan every detail of the 2024 fashion show event, and we have 22 designers presenting their original works on the runway," shared program chair Ashley Brooks. "Three fabulous and very unique senior collections will be featured along with a diverse variety of sophomore and junior looks based on creative prompts such as personal memoirs, mathematics, upcycled materials, machine knitting and inspiration from our vintage Fashion Archive."
Highlights include math and science-inspired designs, featured earlier this year in a collaborative exhibition with the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, and an upcycling project that transforms donated Milwaukee Bucks swag into designer looks.
The show will also feature winners of the Uniquely Yours contest, which challenges high school students to creatively upcycle materials into runway garments.
