Program Overview

Mount Mary University has a 90-year history of quality dietetic education and is a recognized leader in dietetics education in southeastern Wisconsin. Mount Mary University has the oldest Accredited Nutrition and Dietetics program in Milwaukee. The program combines a required minimum of 1,050 supervised experiential learning hours with the ACEND competencies and master’s level coursework to prepare you to be eligible to take the Registration Examination for Dietitians upon completion of the program and become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Mount Mary’s Integrated Master of Science in Nutrition & Dietetics program features:

  • Flexible class schedules offered days, evenings, and online
  • Knowledgeable instructors who frequently update course content with a focus on evidence-based practice
  • Small class sizes that make interaction with fellow classmates and faculty easier

The Integrated Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics at Mount Mary University is ACEND-accredited and completion will enable the student to take the Registered Dietitian Examination. Exam requirements are set by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR.) See: https://www.cdrnet.org/RDNeligibility

The curriculum prepares students for the variety of career options in dietetics. The program equips students for leadership in three main areas of dietetics which include clinical nutrition, community dietetics and foodservice management. Students obtain the "hands-on" supervised experiential learning experience while in the program. Although full-time student status is advised, the program is able to be done on a part-time student status as long as the student completes the program in 150% of the time allotted. The program is based in Milwaukee at this time, but there are online education options for several classes and the plan is to expand programming online.

There are three routes to becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) through the Integrated M.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics at Mount Mary University:

  1. Students with a non-nutrition degree
After admission, these students will be able to complete coursework and supervised experiential learning in five semesters. Students without a nutrition science degree may require more than five semesters if pre-requisites have not been previously met.
  2. Students with a dietetic or nutrition science degree, and with or without a verification statement
Students entering with a verification statement from an ACEND accredited program will typically complete the program in five semesters or less. Students with a nutrition science degree may require more than five semesters if pre-requisites have not been previously met.
  3. Mount Mary University undergraduate students majoring in Human Biology Pre-Dietetics Concentration
The Human Biology: Pre-Dietetics Bachelor of Science degree from Mount Mary University will allow students to earn up to 24 graduate credits in their senior year. After graduation, students will complete the Integrated Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics in three semesters (total five semesters of IMSND).
